Class 3W have been exploring the story of “The Iron Man,” a classic children’s book written by Ted Hughes. Inspired by the book, the students used a range of creative materials—including foil, modeling clay, and household recyclables—to design and start building their very own Iron Men.
The classroom was buzzing with concentration and excitement as everyone got involved, carefully crafting arms, legs, and even heads for their models. Each student added personal touches, and it was fantastic to see teamwork and imagination in action. Their projects also linked in with English work, as they used planning sheets to think about features and design ideas before building.
This hands-on activity helped everyone deepen their understanding of the story, which was first published in 1968 by Ted Hughes, a renowned British poet and writer. The Iron Man tells the story of a metal giant who befriends a small boy and protects the world from a space dragon. The students’ creative work brought the story to life in a fun and memorable way.
Great job 3W, and we can’t wait to see the finished Iron Men on display soon!
