🥕 Growing Life Skills with The Enormous Turnip
Our pupils have been developing some vital life skills while having lots of fun with our very own Enormous Turnip activity!
As we are currently acting out the story of The Enormous Turnip, we decided to bring the story to life by preparing and cooking our very own turnips — although, unfortunately, we couldn’t get hold of actual turnips, so swedes had to step in! 🥬
The pupils enjoyed getting hands-on as they carefully peeled and chopped the swedes, practising important skills such as following instructions, using kitchen equipment safely, taking turns and working together. There were plenty of smiles (and a few interesting facial expressions!) as we tackled the rather large vegetables.
Once our swedes had been cooked, it was time for the most important part — the taste test! Each pupil had the opportunity to sample what they had helped prepare. The reviews were certainly mixed! Some pupils really enjoyed the taste, while others were rather less impressed. 😂
It was fantastic to see everyone having a go, trying something new and taking part in the whole process from peeling and chopping to tasting.
Who knew The Enormous Turnip could provide so many opportunities for learning — and so much fun along the way? 🌱👩🍳👨🍳
