Positive Behaviour Training  | Team Teach from Park Community Academy

How has Team Teach supported me in my teaching, management role and my delivery of Team Teach to others?

Team Teach provides staff with a holistic toolkit. It shifts focus towards ‘interpreting behaviour as communication’. It allows an understanding of systemic methods of behaviour management, using non-verbal and verbal de-escalation, and prioritising least restrictive physical interventions as a last resort. This framework increases staff safety, delivers support to all within an organisation and creates a calmer environment.

As a behaviour manager, Team Teach impacted significantly on my role. It allowed me to understand that ‘de-escalation first’ ensured staff relied on proactive, preventative strategies, therefore reducing the likelihood of restrictive holds. It also ensured there were individualised risk reduction plans, with tailored strategies to student’s baseline behaviours and triggers. It ensured a clear structure was in place for post crisis repair and reflection for both students and staff.

As a Team Teach trainer, the use of Team Teach has ensured a consistent whole school culture. In-house expertise has been developed, and a shared language and ethos has been allowed to flourish. Colleagues have been trained to navigate the legal framework surrounding positive handling, recording and reporting
