Positive Behaviour Training  | Team Teach from Park Community Academy

Park Community Academy (PCA) currently hold an Area Operating Licence. This permits PCA, to deliver Team Teach Positive Behaviour Training to schools, colleges, alternative educational provision, children’s care homes, hospitals, adult care homes and other organisations that are located within the Blackpool Local Education Authority geographical area.

Team Teach provides staff with a holistic toolkit. It shifts focus towards ‘interpreting behaviour as communication’. It allows an understanding of systemic methods of behaviour management, using non-verbal and verbal de-escalation, and prioritising least restrictive physical interventions as a last resort. This framework increases staff safety, delivers support to all within an organisation and creates a calmer environment.

How will Team Teach aim to help your organisation?

· Our strategies equip staff working in education and care environments with the tools they need to understand behaviour, manage challenging situations, and minimise serious incidents.

· It offers different strategies to a range of risk reduction techniques which enable people to work together to safeguard individuals.

· It gives staff a greater understanding of the possible reasons why challenging behaviours are displayed, and how these behaviours can be managed both on an individual basis, and within the wider environment.

· It supports staff response to behaviour management plans, and could help demonstrate good practice in a preventative approach to Health and Safety responsibilities.

How will Team Teach aim to help the members of your staff?

· To understand the drivers and motivations displayed by individuals who are distressed and may become aggressive and disruptive

· To build a stronger team confidence around supporting behaviour

· To utilise a toolkit of holistic strategies on de-escalation and crisis intervention, including the importance of targeted communication, both verbal and non-verbal.

· To understand and have increased knowledge regarding relevant legal standards and expectations related to use of force, reporting, recording, monitoring and evaluating requirements of incidents involving physical controls and reasonable force.

· To execute simple and safe positive handling and personal safety techniques: these may include - guiding, escorting and holding in standing, sitting and kneeling positions safely, appropriate for your service setting needs, which focus on maximum care -minimum force

· To improve expertise and confidence in staying safe, competence to carry out simple de-escalation strategies, and applying physical intervention in conjunction with a risk assessment and an analysis of need.

Meet our experienced Team Teach Trainers

As a behaviour manager, Team Teach impacted significantly on my role. It allowed me to understand that ‘de-escalation first’ ensured staff relied on proactive, preventative strategies, therefore reducing the likelihood of restrictive holds. It also ensured there were individualised risk reduction plans, with tailored strategies to student’s baseline behaviours and triggers. It ensured a clear structure was in place for post crisis repair and reflection for both students and staff.

As a Team Teach trainer, the use of Team Teach has ensured a consistent whole school culture. In-house expertise has been developed, and a shared language and ethos has been allowed to flourish. Colleagues have been trained to navigate the legal framework surrounding positive handling, recording and reporting

6 Hour Basic and 12 Hour Foundation courses

Your organisation’s specific requirements will determine the suitability of the two training options. Each option will be specifically tailored to your needs.

Each course is organised into the 8 modules outlined above, although Module 7 ‘Positive Handling’, differs in that the 6-hour course focuses primarily on simple prompts and guides, whereas the 12-hour course looks at a hierarchy of holds and positive interventions.
